Talladega County Mayors Unite to Discuss Regional Growth, Challenges, and Opportunities

Quarterly breakfast meeting brings municipal leaders together to strengthen collaboration and share ideas that benefit communities across Talladega County.

Regional collaboration continues to play a vital role in the success of communities throughout Talladega County. This week, municipal leaders from across the county gathered for the quarterly Talladega County Mayors' Breakfast, a meeting dedicated to sharing ideas, discussing challenges, and exploring opportunities that impact local communities.

The quarterly breakfast is a collaborative effort between the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce, and the Talladega, Lincoln, and Munford Chamber of Commerce. The initiative was created to provide mayors and community leaders with a consistent forum for open discussion and relationship-building across municipal boundaries.

Representatives from Childersburg, Sylacauga, Talladega, Lincoln, Munford, Bon Air, and Oak Grove were invited to participate in the meeting, bringing together leaders who collectively serve thousands of residents throughout Talladega County.

During the breakfast, mayors shared updates on projects taking place within their communities and discussed common issues affecting cities across the region. Topics included economic development initiatives, infrastructure improvements, workforce needs, public services, community growth, and strategies for attracting new investment to Talladega County.

While each municipality has its own unique priorities, many of the challenges and opportunities facing local governments are shared. Meetings like the Talladega County Mayors' Breakfast create an environment where leaders can exchange ideas, learn from one another's experiences, and identify opportunities to work together for the benefit of the entire county.

The breakfast also highlights the importance of regional partnerships. Childersburg Young Professionals Explore Leadership and Opportunity at Selwood Farm

Young Professionals Visit Selwood Farm in Childersburg | Workforce Development Program.

The Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Young Professionals program recently spent an exciting morning at Selwood Farm, one of Childersburg's premier destinations for outdoor recreation, hospitality, and community engagement.

The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to experience a local business firsthand while learning about the many career, leadership, and recreational opportunities available throughout the Childersburg area. Participants toured the beautiful property, explored the grounds, and enjoyed riding golf carts as they learned more about the operations and vision behind one of the region's most distinctive destinations.

The Young Professionals program is designed to help students develop leadership skills, build professional connections, and gain exposure to local businesses and industries that contribute to the growth and success of our community. Experiences like the visit to Selwood Farm allow students to see firsthand how local businesses create opportunities, serve customers, and positively impact the quality of life in Childersburg and throughout Talladega County.

The Carnival Returns to Childersburg: A Week of Family Fun and Community Spirit

Hosted by the Childersburg Rescue Squad, the annual carnival brings rides, games, food, and memories to Childersburg June 10–16.

The sights, sounds, and excitement of carnival season have officially arrived in Childersburg!

From June 10–16, families, friends, and visitors from across the area are invited to enjoy a week filled with thrilling rides, exciting games, delicious food, and unforgettable memories right here in our community.

Each year, the carnival serves as one of Childersburg's favorite traditions, bringing people together for laughter, fellowship, and family fun. Whether you're taking a ride on a classic favorite, testing your luck at the game booths, or enjoying a funnel cake with friends, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce is also helping families save a little money during the festivities. Visitors can stop by the Chamber office to pick up $5 OFF armband coupons while supplies last.

A special thank you goes to the Childersburg Rescue Squad for sponsoring and hosting this annual event. Their dedication and hard work behind the scenes make it possible for our community to enjoy this tradition year after year. From planning and coordination to supporting the event throughout the week, the members of the Rescue Squad continue to invest their time and energy into making Childersburg a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

John-Mark Freeman selected for Alabama Chamber's Chamber Champion

Childersburg Area Chamber's President & CEO selected for State award.

John-Mark Freeman, President/CEO of the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has been selected as the 2026 Chamber Champion, a statewide honor recognizing emerging leaders who demonstrate exceptional impact, professionalism, and commitment to advancing the chamber industry.

The award highlights professionals with five or fewer years in the chamber field who are already producing measurable results and strengthening their communities through leadership and service. Since taking the helm four years ago, Freeman has led a transformation of the Chamber marked by significant growth and regional influence. Under his leadership, the organization has achieved revenue growth, built financial reserves, expanded staff capacity, and doubled attendance at major events. His work has helped position the Chamber as a central convener for business, government, and community collaboration across Talladega County.

Freeman has also spearheaded first-of-their-kind regional initiatives, including the Talladega County Elected Officials Meeting, Mayors' Breakfast, and Industrial Advisory Alliance-efforts that have strengthened partnerships and aligned leaders around shared economic priorities.

In addition to organizational growth, Freeman has focused on long-term community impact through initiatives like a citywide rebrand, the launch of a Young Professionals program, and early planning for a new Chamber headquarters.

Most recently, Freeman helped lead the "Forward Together" initiative, a rapid-response effort following the announcement of a major employer closure in the region. In partnership with local and regional stakeholders, the initiative mobilized resources, coordinated hiring events, and connected displaced workers with new opportunities-demonstrating the Chamber's role as both a leader and a lifeline during times of uncertainty.

Beyond his professional role, Freeman remains deeply engaged in the community, serving as President of the local Kiwanis Club and as a board member for Parks & Recreation and the Historic Commission. He is also actively investing in professional development through programs such as the Institute for Organization Management (IOM) and GEDI. "This recognition reflects the work of an entire community," said Freeman. "Our Chamber is committed to building momentum—not just for today, but for the future-and I'm grateful to be part of a region that believes in moving forward together."

The Chamber Champion award underscores Freeman's impact in moving the organization from maintenance to momentum-strengthening its foundation while expanding its reach and influence across the region.
